We thank the thousands of Ohioans who make a $1 contribution to the
Second Chance Trust Fund when applying for or renewing their Ohio drivers
license or identification card at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
BUT, we need to do
more...
Nearly 2,500 Ohioans need life saving organ transplants and are registered
on the national waiting list.
The number on the list grows every year.
Currently, over 90,000 patients are awaiting organ donations in the
United States. Some of these
are for life saving operations, while others are to enhance the quality of
life. Organ and tissue donation
provides a second chance for life – to help a blind person see, enable a
bedridden child to walk & run, give the new dad a chance to live to see his
newborn son, or to allow a star athlete to regain strength and endurance to
possibly win the next Olympic medal!
Every person, no matter what age, race or religion can register to be a
donor. Even if you have a
severe illness or disease that prevents you from donating blood – you may
still be able to donate certain organs, tissue, or corneas.
A medical exam will be done at the time of death to determine your
eligibility for donation, so please don’t hesitate to register.
Registration can be done in one of two ways:
(1) Register at the BMV when you obtain or renew your license or (2)
Register online at
www.donatelifeohio.org,
Once registered, it is also important that you share your wishes with family
and friends.
