Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling
The Williams County Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Program is a comprehensive program designed to educate and increase public awareness on solid waste reduction and recycling.
This program is funded through the Four County Solid Waste District. The "District" includes the counties of Williams, Fulton, Defiance, and Paulding. Fees are collected from trash disposed at the landfills in Williams County and Defiance County. Some funding may also be obtained from grants offered through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources or the Ohio EPA. The program office is located at the Williams County Health Department in Montpelier.
Education
The program provides educational information and materials to promote the three "R's" Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle. Educational presentations are provided to schools, clubs, churches and organizations.
Awareness
The program promotes solid waste reduction & recycling through local advertising media such as newspaper and radio. The program also provides displays throughout the year at the Williams County Fair, the Williams County Business & Industry Show, and the Rainbow of Wellness event. The program often distributes promotional items at these events to promote the purchase of recycled content products.
Recycling
The program provides numerous recycling opportunities throughout the county. Recycling trailers are placed at various locations to accept items such as aluminum cans, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, plastic bottles 1 & 2, and steel cans. The program also conducts special "one-day" recycling collection events for such items as appliances, computers, and tires.
Litter Prevention
The program encourages the proper disposal of litter. Litter cleanup activities are promoted by the program. Some county and township roads have been "adopted" by various groups to be cleaned up on a regular basis.
