What is WIC??
WIC is a nutrition education program that also provides highly nutritious supplemental food which promotes good health for pregnant and women who just had a baby, breastfeeding mothers, infants and children up to age 5.
Who is Eligible for WIC?
Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a baby less than 6 months old, and infants and children up to age 5 are eligible to apply for WIC.
To qualify for services you must:
Live in Ohio, have a nutritional or medical risk, and
Meet certain nutritional or health risks
What Does WIC Provide?
Nutrition education and support
Breastfeeding education and support
Referrals are made to prenatal and pediatric health care and other maternal and child health and human service programs (example: Medicaid (Healthy Start) and food stamps
Immunization screening and referral
Supplemental foods like:
Milk Cereal
Eggs Peanut Butter or beans
Juice Infant formula
Tuna fish and carrots (if you are breastfeeding)
How Do I Apply?
You can call our office and we can begin to determine if you may be eligible over the phone. If it appears that you might be eligible, we will schedule an appointment and you will meet with one of our nurses to determine if you qualify. Also, WIC helps save money by providing nutritious foods for you at no cost and the money you save you can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and other food WIC does not provide.
What Do I Bring to My First Visit?
Proof of income (current pay stubs, approval letter for Healthy Start, Ohio Works First, Food Stamps, or current Medicaid card)
Proof of address (utility or credit bill, or Ohio driver's license)
Proof of identity for you and any other applicants (birth certificate, driver's license, Medicaid card, crib card, shot record)
All family members applying for WIC services
If pregnant, a doctor's statement showing due date
Children's shot records
Good nutrition starts with pregnancy. It will provide the best possible start for babies and children to grow up strong and healthy.
